Domestic Violence

At Matthew Gold & Co we represent the victims of domestic violence in civil claims for compensation against police forces and other public authorities. Victims of domestic violence often approach the police for protection from their abusers. All too often the police put in place inadequate safeguards which result in the victim suffering more severe abuse.

There are duties under the Human Rights Act to protect victims of abuse. Where these rights are breached, we represent the victims in claims for compensation and to establish their legal rights.

Domestic violence can result in the death of the victim. Where this occurs we represent the surviving family, including children, in the resulting inquest and civil claim for compensation. Family members can sue for compensation specifically for the surviving children.
