Background

Robert is an Associate Solicitor in our civil claims and inquests team having trained at Gold Jennings between 2020 and 2022. Prior to joining the firm, Robert worked at Leigh Day where he acted on behalf of claimants in Nigeria and Sierra Leone in high-profile cases in against multi-national companies arising from environmental destruction.

Civil claims

Robert has a varied caseload that includes a range of civil claims against public authorities, including the police. These claims are often factually and legally complex. He has successfully represented individuals who are the victims of historic sexual abuse and helped clients challenge the lawfulness of their immigration detention. He also represents prisoners in claims arising from mistreatment and/or discrimination within the prison estate.

Robert also acts in public law proceedings, primarily on behalf of young people in in claims for judicial review against local authorities for failures to provide support in breach of the Children Act.

Inquests

Robert has significant experience of acting on behalf of bereaved families in Inquest proceedings that often engage Article 2 ECHR. A developing area of his work focuses on representing the families of victims of domestic violence who have either taken their own lives or been killed by their abusive partners. Recent cases in which Robert has acted include the Inquests into the tragic deaths of Chenise Gregory and Lucy Rushton who were both killed by their partners.

Robert is a member of Justice, the law reform group, and has provided legal training to charities supporting the victims of domestic abuse.
