09 Dec Police pay £15,000 to victim of false imprisonment
Staffordshire Police have agreed to pay damages to our client, Stanley Iredale, after he was detained and assaulted by officers on Easter Sunday in 2022.
Stanley was driving home with his brother when their vehicle was pulled over by two police officers. Unprovoked, one of the officers threatened to arrest Stanley who then walked away from the scene. Our client was then pursued, handcuffed and forced into the rear of the officers’ vehicle. Stanley’s phone was confiscated and when he protested, he was subjected to a wholly unnecessary use of force and restrained in a dangerous manner. Officers left the scene shortly thereafter having refused our client’s request to call for an ambulance.
Our client brought a civil claim against Staffordshire Police for assault and false imprisonment which has recently settled for £15,000.
Stanley was represented by Robert Hamill of Gold Jennings and Frederick Powell of Doughty Street Chambers.
