14 Jul Metropolitan Police pay compensation in a post-inquest domestic violence claim

The Metropolitan Police have agreed to pay our client damages as part of the settlement of a claim brought under the Human Rights Act. The claim arose from the murder of our client’s sister, Chenise Gregory, in 2021. Chenise was killed by her abusive partner, a convicted offender, who was being monitored by the police whilst he was in the community on licence. Gold Jennings represented Chenise’s family in inquest proceedings which concluded that numerous police failings to protect her from her partner prior to her death contributed to her tragic passing.

After the inquest concluded, our client brought a claim on behalf of Chenise’s estate and for herself as an indirect victim of breaches of Chenise’s rights as protected by Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
