GOLD JENNINGS REPRESENTS THE FAMILY OF REGAN TIERNEY IN AN INQUEST AT BOLTON CORONER’S COURT.

Matthew Gold of Gold Jennings represents David and Shannon Tierney, the father and daughter of Regan Tierney who was brutally murdered by her partner Daniel Patten on the 5th June 2019.

The inquest into Regan’s death commenced on the 11th July 2024 and is being held subject to the provisions of Article 2 of the ECHR.

Regan had suffered serious domestic violence from Patten since she was 17 years old including being strangled and assaulted causing a broken nose.  More recently and immediately prior to her death, Patten threatened to put her head on a spike, throw acid in her face and kill her new boyfriend.

Regan and her father David made repeated calls for help to Greater Manchester Police wanting the domestic violence to stop.  Officers attending on Regan days before her murder, failed to correctly complete the DASH risk assessment, reached an incorrect view of the level of risk Regan faced from Patten and gave inadequate safeguarding advice.  Officers also failed to take any pro-active steps to attempt to prevent Regan suffering from further domestic abuse.

Emma Louise Fenelon of 1 Crown Office Row is instructed to represent the family.

Prior to Regan’s death, Greater Manchester Police were criticised in a number of independent reports for failing to adequately protect the victims of domestic abuse and coercive controlling behaviour.
