21 Jul Inquest into death of Richard Davies reaches conclusion of lawful killing
On Friday 21 July 2017 a jury of nine members reached a verdict of lawful killing in the inquest touching upon Richard Davies, who was shot by an officer of Cambridgeshire Constabulary and died on 21 October 2015.
Gillian Davies, mother of Richard Davies, said the following on conclusion of the inquest:
“Whilst we cannot condone the actions of our son Richard Davies, we feel he must have suffered some kind of breakdown. He was a much loved son and brother and is sorely missed. We feel that the overstretched mental health services were unable to support him. We would like to thank the Coroner, members of the jury and our legal team for their assistance in this matter and request that the privacy of this family be respected so we can begin to move on from this tragic event”
Harpreet Aujla, solicitor for the family, said the following:
“Samantha Davies and her family would like to thank the Coroner and members of the jury for their detailed consideration of the facts in this inquest. They now respectfully request privacy so they can move forward with their lives together.”
Matthew Gold, solicitor for the family, said the following:
“The family are grateful for the detailed consideration the Coroner has given to the issues arising in this investigation. We welcome the indication that he will provide a preventing future death report addressing the issues concerning appropriate ammunition which came to light as a result of our clients’, Gill and Chris Davies, Independent Police Complaints Commission complaint. We also welcome the apology received during the inquest from a senior officer of Cambridgeshire Constabulary in relation to the handling of how information was passed to them and Samantha Davies following these tragic events.”
