27 May Tragic Death of Harshita Brella
Matthew Gold of Gold Jennings has been instructed by the family of Harshita Brella whose body was found in the boot of a car in east London on the 13th November 2024. Harshita had been in a short arranged marriage with Pankaj Lamba before moving from India to the UK on 30th April 2024. She was subjected to serious domestic violence including sexual assaults, threats to kill, honour based threats of violence and coercive controlling behaviour from Lamba. Harshita reported the abuse to Northamptonshire Police and was assessed at high risk from Lamba.
Following Harshita’s death, Lamba absconded to India and has yet to be located by the police.
The IOPC, following a detailed investigation, found that 4 officers should face disciplinary proceedings, two officers for misconduct and two for gross misconduct relating to their roles in the investigation of Lamba before Harshita’s death. On the 21st May 2026, the family were excluded from the disciplinary meeting of the first two officers who were found to have no case to answer.
Sonia Harshita’s sister and their parents devasted by the death of Harshita are campaigning for justice and to hold Northamptonshire Police to account for their failings leading up to Harshita’s death. The family are cooperating and supporting the police attempts to locate and extradite Lamba to the UK who has been charged with murder, rape and CCB of Harshita.
